This Week at Rules – October 21, 2020

Brody Mangum Public News

This week at rules we’re looking at election rules and going back through our COVID resources.

Front Page Focus

With the General Election coming up on November 3, interest has been growing in some of the voting rules in the Administrative Code. Our first Front Page Focus for the week, R623-2, Uniform Ballot Counting Standards, reviews the standards of what counts as a vote in the state’s various voting systems. R623-2 provides the procedure for counting ballots, correcting overvoted or undervoted ballots (ballots with either too many or not enough responses), and recounting ballots.

Title R623 of the Utah Administrative Code contains the rest of the administrative rules on elections through the Lieutenant Governor’s office. For more information on Utah statute related to voting, take a look at Title 20A of the Utah Code.

Vote.Utah.gov also contains election information, including guides on how to vote, check registration info, and follow the status of your ballot.

To round out the Front Page Focus, the Codification Segue remains with Executive Documents replacing the Publications page from last week.

COVID Resource Reminders

With the Executive Documents page back on the front page because of an uptick in views, we thought we’d take the opportunity to remind readers of a few of the COVID-19 resources available.

We’ve compiled a list of COVID-19 related rules, Coronavirus.Utah.gov continues to be a great resource for public info, and the Utah Division of Emergency Management released a COVID-19 Response StoryMap earlier this month.

As always, send any questions or concerns to rulesonline@utah.gov.

We’ll see you next week!
